The college admissions process is, to be sure, a tense and stressful one. Colleges are more selective than ever, with acceptance rates plummeting to 4% and 3%, and even kids who’ve founded companies being denied from Ivy Leagues. With such intense pressure, what’s your child to do? Well, it’s always important to keep one key thing in mind: Don’t let the process be about getting in. Let it be about self-discovery.
With the college admissions process being so highly competitive, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture–and, by extension, easy to lose sight of what college admissions officers really want to see. Everyone knows they want to admit the best and the brightest, but what they really want is something more: they want to admit students with well-developed identities and interests, and who can competently reflect on themselves in college essays. The process of creating a successful college application is thus also the process of helping students to discover who they are and giving them the confidence to express it on the page. On top of holding students to deadlines and assisting them with writing mechanics, I will help them discover and express their true selves. The application essays will show your child being the best they can possibly be.
Colleges also want to admit students who are not just good at academics. They want students who are well-rounded leaders and have clear, definable passions. If students can demonstrate leadership and passion through their extracurriculars, that would highly increase their chances. Thus, I offer a wide range of services, from guiding the application itself to advising on extracurriculars to helping your child with summer programs. Whether you’re a ninth grader starting on their high school journey, or a senior rushing to get their application in by the deadline, I’m here to help!
